TastyType #23 – New Beginnings

We're back!

First TastyType newsletter for 2023! 🎉

Thanks for the patience in sticking around. I'll do my best to make it worth it. Since Revue is shutting down shortly I've moved to Beehiive for sending this newsletter – which I quite like so far.

I'm currently still trying to figure out exactly what to do with this newsletter.

  • Do people just want images with links to freshly released typefaces?

  • Should I stick to a weekly theme?

  • Do people read what I write below each link or should I keep it simple?

If you have any feedback about this, do let me know. 🥰

Awesome Typefaces

No theme for today, just links to some kickass typefaces I bookmarked recently.

This typeface has a lot of character and is ideal for larger sizes and display purposes. Though I bet you could get away with using it for body text. Make sure to check out the website, it is wild.

I grabbed one of the most striking images to use above, but honestly, make sure to give the full typeface a look because it is awesome. Hardbop looks hella fun for branding assets, or Web3 stuff because those designs are all over the place (in a good way).

I have a weakspot for fonts that are both geometric and tech-y. Hybrid pushes all the right buttons for me. Must be because I usually view typefaces from the viewpoint of a logo designer, looking for the perfect wordmark font.

This typeface is so good, this one image does not do it justice. Check out its website for a huge deepdive into all the small details. Plus you can even download a trial version to play around with.

This font is just too much fun so I had to share it. Though I've not got a single clue what someone might use it for...

*Trying to refrain from making a silly pun about the name...* Getting some serious Knives Out vibes from this Art Nouveau typeface. If you're a UI designer then I'm sorry, this one won't be of much use. I'll make sure the next one is more suitable.

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but please check out the website for this typeface, it's just so so good. Also, that 'sy' ligiture above is just criminally good.

Lovely neo-grotesque typeface that has been manually hinted for digital use. Great for interfaces, branding, or anything else you throw at it.

Inspired by the handwiting and works of Hungarian illustrator János Kass. I honestly wish my handwriting was this awesome.

Geometricstyle , rounded corners, stellar ligatures, small caps; this typeface has it all. Almost makes me wish I had a streetfood van so I could use this for all my branding.

Alright friends, that's it for this week. I hope you like this updated design. As always, please let me know what you think of this issue, all feedback and ideas are welcome. Just reply to this email, or drop me a message on Twitter.

If you enjoyed this issue feel free to share it with your friends.
